Phaptawan was granted an Asialink Arts Residency program in Chiang Mai, her mother’s hometown, in 2014. This gave her the opportunity to reconnect with her past, and to develop Retold-Untold Stories, a series of installations that are derived from personal histories of women, across generations, in the Lanna (Northern Thailand) community, including her own.

The centrepiece of the exhibition comprises of a large floor installation, Let me tell you, Child containing local herbs into alphabets. Flanked on both sides of the work are a series of sculptures, There, there and paper hangings, Broken the spell. The group of work were reconstructed and exhibited at SCA Gallery in 2016. It offers the Australian audience and in particularly, art students of SCA, the opportunity to explore and relate to Australia’s migrant society through Thai culture, and from the perspective of a woman artist.
